[[DES_1]] Leo Messi spoke to the media on Thursday lunchtime during the presentation of the new deal between Gillette and FC Barcelona and made it clear that he’s optimistic about the team’s options this season: “we’re working well in training and we are trying to carry that forward into the games. The team is growing and we are on the right track. There’s more to come once we take everything on board that the boss is asking of us”.

Luis Enrique’s arrival has seen some tactical changes in the team and Messi explained: “you work differently when there’s a new coach. He tells us what he wants and we have to try and take that in as quickly as we can. For instance, playing with a more central front man gives me more opportunity to play a pass that results in a goal than if we use a wide man. It changes the way we play and my passing options, but these are just things that come up in a game, sometimes I am in a position to make an assist and sometimes to score”.

Questioned about teammate Neymar, Messi  declared: “it is now the second season we’ve been together and we understand each other . We are also playing closer together than last season and that means we can work together more. As I said, he’s a great player and it’s a real pleasure to be on the pitch with him. Messi was also upbeat about this season’s new signings, declaring: “they are really top quality and I think they have all settled in here really well – both on and off the pitch “.

Closing in on Zarra

Leo Messi, with 248 goals, is just three behind the Spanish League's all time top scorer Telmo Zarra and the Argentinean admitted: "It would be very nice to become the leading scorer in such a special and important league. It would be very special, but all in good time".
