Suárez and Aspas will meet again on Saturday at Camp Nou / FCB PHOTOMONTAGE

Iago Aspas and Luis Suárez will come face to face this Saturday at Camp Nou. The two strikers were team mates at Liverpool last season when the English side were runners up in the Premier League, their best finish since the season 2008/09.

Despite both being in the city that gave the world ‘The Beatles’, Aspas and Suárez appeared together on the field relatively rarely. The forwards played together in just 7 matches – 6 in the Premier League and 1 in the FA Cup – and only once did they both start in the same game. That was on the 1st of January at home to Hull City in the league, a clash that ended in a 2-0 win for the ‘Reds’ with Suárez opening his account for the year thanks to a wonderful free kick.

The statistics for the two players on Merseyside paint a contrasting picture. Iago Aspas played just 376 minutes in the league compared to 2,395 for Suárez. The man now on loan at Sevilla failed to find the net in official competition whilst the Uruguayan bagged 31goals in the Premier League alone, enough to win him the Golden Boot.

Now both players find themselves at new clubs. Suárez’s ban kept him out of action until the end of October and Aspas has been used more as a substitute than as a starter by Sevilla boss Unai Emery.
