Former FC Barcelona player Ludovic Giuly was part of the Club’s delegation in Friday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final draw in Nyon, Switzerland that has brought the blaugranes face to face with Bayern Munich. The Frenchman said he believes that "Barça should not be afraid.” He said they have to be respected but that the Catalans need to rely on their “quality, strength and conviction,” to beat the Bavarian side.

"Bayern are very strong and have had a great Champions League so far.” he added. Giuly also opined on perhaps the biggest twist of the coming tie: "Guardiola knows the Club well and now leads an incredibly strong team of his own."

Giuly formed part of the Barça team that won the Champions League in the 2005/06 season.

Vice president Jordi Mestre on the draw against the German champions

“We have to play and compete. We hope and we wish to play well and get through,” added Jordi Mestre, FC Barcelona vice president, following on from the Champions League semi-final draw.

Mestre, present at the draw along with Ludovic Giuly, Albert Soler and Amador Bernabéu as part of FC Barcelona’s official representation in Nyon, ended by saying “Pep Guardiola knows us very well….Bayern are tough opponents who work very hard."
