Paris, Rome, Wembley and Berlin: Iniesta has played in four UCL finals

After playing in Berlin, Andrés Iniesta has become the first Barça player to appear in four Champions League Finals. He is one of three players still in the squad that were around for the 2006 final in Paris, but neither Messi nor Xavi played at Saint Denis.

First final

Iniesta was 22 in 2006, when he appeared in his first final. That was at Saint Denis, when he came on for Edmílson as the team was losing 1-0. The Catalans went on to win against Arsenal with goals from Eto’o and Belletti.

Difficulties in Rome

Iniesta’s presence in the Rome final was in doubt until the very last minute. He was not 100% fit but he started the game nevertheless and provided the assist for Eto’o to score the first goal. He was substituted in injury time by Pedro as he celebrated his second European title.

Wembley 2011

Barça beat Manchester United for the second time to win their fourth crown at the new Wembley, the same place where they had won their first in 1992, albeit in the old stadium. Iniesta started the game and played a key role in a performance that stunned the world.
