The first team celebrate the Liga 2014/15 title / MIGUEL RUIZ-FCB

The Liga 2014/15 title celebrations got under way at 8.26pm CET. Shortly after the game with Deportivo, the president of the RFEF, Ángel María Villar, presented the trophy to first team captain Xavi Hernández, the main focus of the day’s events.

And with that, the Camp Nou burst into party mood, to the sound of fireworks and Queen’s ‘We are the Champions, with cameras flashing all around the place to catch the moment forever.

The fans once again produced the mosaic that had appeared before the game, and the players, joined by their children, went on a lap of honour. It was an evening of song, dance and joy as the Liga trophy was paraded for the 23rd time in club history.

Luis Enrique started by saying “first of all I want to thank all the players and all the staff that make up the FC Barcelona family for their behaviour and professionalism … You are loyal supporters. “We will see you here in 15 days’ time” he continued. “Because we are sure the players will be doing all they can to make Barça even bigger than ever”.

Andrés Iniesta was the next on the microphone, saying “today is a very special day. We’re celebrating the Liga but we also want the cup and the Champions League. We want to come back here on the 7th to celebrate with you again.”

And he was followed by his midfield colleague, Xavi Hernández, the man to whom the day was being dedicated on occasion of his departure after 17 seasons in the first team. “This is not over yet” he insisted. “We want the cup and the Champions League.”
