[[DES_1]] FC Barcelona will face Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Cup quarter finals, after Simeone’s side drew 2-2 at the Bernabéu on Wednesday night with two goals from Fernando Torres to knock out Real Madrid 4-2 on aggregate. The first leg will be played at the Camp Nou next Wednesday, with the second leg a week later in Madrid. It’ll be the first time the two teams have met in the Cup for six seasons, when Barça won 5-2 over both legs, with a memorable hat trick from Leo Messi at the Calderón.

In all, Barça and Atlético Madrid have played 20 Cup ties – 12 wins for Barça  and 2 Cup Finals - one win each, Barça’s win coming in 1926. The two have met 7 times at the last 16 stage of the competition, with four wins for Barça (1951/52, 1956/57, 1992/93 and 2008/09) and 3 for Atlético (1947/48, 1966/67, 1981/82 and 1994/95). In the quarter finals, Barça have won twice (1985/86 and 1996/97), including a memorable win in the latter when Barça made a great a comeback to win 5-4, and the Madrid team three times (1971/72, 1975/76 and 1988/89).

Of the 7 times the two have met at the semi-final stage, Barça have won on 5 occasions (1924/25, 1952/53, 1967/68, 1970/71, 1973/74, 1990/91) and lost twice (1990/91 and 1999/2000). In 9 of the seasons the two have met in the Cup, Barça have taken the trophy 9 times.
