Brazilian full back Dani Alves had a lively game against Villarreal and afterwards spoke about how pleased he was to have won at what he describes as “a difficult ground to go to against a rough opponent … the important thing is that the team was ready to suffer for the cause and fight until the end.”

“I want to improve on what I’ve done in the past” he continued. “I want to get better and help my team-mates to score a lot of goals … There is no point crossing the ball if there’s no-one there to score and now that we’re gathering more people in the area, it’s easier to find a target”.

Luis Enrique commented that he thought Alves had been one of the men of the match at El Madrigal, and the full-back responded by saying that “it’s always nice to be praised by the manager … But I won’t let myself get carried away because of that.”

Post-match statements by other players:

“We played intense football and deserved to more goals. I think we were the better team and we’ve managed to get a win at one of the most difficult grounds”.

“To start the league with six points from two games without conceding a goal is unbeatable”.

“I have to thank the manager for seeing that I’m offering one hundred per cent in training, because that’s our job”.

“I thank Del Bosque because I asked him not to pick me. Hip problems are dangerous because they can stay with you forever”.

“We defenders feel comfortable when we play deep because when the opposition come at you, you’re better positioned”.

“We’re all very optimistic about this Barça team”.

“It’s very hard to win here. They’re a tough opponent that will be in the top half of the table. We don’t want to drop any points so early in the season”.

“I think we played very well. They didn’t have many chances except in the second half and when Mathieu put the ball onto the post. We took it very seriously and created chances. I think we deserved the win”.

“It was very important for us to go into the international break with a win behind us, and to get one at such a difficult ground adds to the value”.

“Now it’s time for internationals and then we have to come back here and keep doing the same”.

“We know what Munir and Sandro can do. If they carry on like this, they’ll get first team places. They need to be patient”.
