“We have enough experience to know that these matches are not easy at all and that we needed to be just as intense tonight as we were on Tuesday,” said Gerard Piqué after tonight's match against Rayo Vallecano. The full back went on to say that “Rayo worked hard and they made it difficult for us."

We’ve had to adapt

The Blaugrana were exceptionally accurate in front of goal this evening, but they didn’t retain as much possession as they usually do. Piqué noted, “at times, depending on the rival, you need to adapt your style of play.”

The defender added: “we know what football is like, one week you’re the best team in the world and the next you’re the worst. We know how to measure ourselves and we know it’s important to be coolheaded about it ... We’re going in to the final stretch of the season in top physical condition.”

Villa is a goalscoring machine

David Villa was one of the standout players for Barça against Rayo this evening. The Asturian scored the first goal of the night and he assisted Messi twice. “I like to be able to help the team with my goals. I want to keep on scoring and giving the most of myself,” said the forward, who added: “I’m happy that I was able to help Messi score, we understand each other well.”

El Guaje also talked about the effort the team put in after the demanding Champions League match against Milan. “We felt the fatigue due to the effort we put in on Tuesday, and it was even more noticeable tonight because Rayo are a demanding side. They wanted the ball and they forced us to press them.” On Barça’s recent string of bad results, Villa said “we’ve never lost sight of what we had to do, we simply picked up a couple of bad results.”

Training session at 11.00

The first team will return to training on Monday at 11.00, at the Ciutat Esportivo Joan Gamper. The training session will not be open to the public.
