Speaking to reporters after Barça’s 13th win in 14 league matches, Sergio Busquets told Barça TV’s ‘El Marcador’ programme: “I’m really happy to have made the best ever start to a league campaign. Let’s keep on winning. The important thing is that we have won nearly all our games in all competitions”. Nevertheless, Busquets is keeping a cool head: “There’s a long way to go in the league and we can’t relax”.

A demanding opponent

Barça beat Athletic Club 5-1 thanks to a great team performance: “I don’t know if it was our best match but it certainly was demanding”. Busquets admitted that he prefers to take on opponents that play an open game, like the Basques, than the usual packed defences: “We have a better time in games like this”.

Once again, he joined a chorus of praise for the free-scoring Leo Messi: “He’s the best in the world. He scores goals and takes part in all the attacking moves”. Finally, he expressed his gratitude for having been nominated among the best midfielders in the world by France Football and FIFA: “I do the unglamorous work and so to be recognised like this is doubly important. Being one of the 23 players nominated was a great prize”.
