Barça B v CD Lugo: Undeserved defeat (0-1)

Although it was no brilliant performance, the reserves deserved more from their game with Lugo It's now been three games since Eusebio saw his side win

[[DES_1]]Barça B have lost their second consecutive game at the Miniestadi, this time against a practical Lugo side that claimed the three points thanks to a goal from Iriome. The reserves dominated from start to finish but were unable to turn their possession into goals.

Improving over time

The first twenty minutes or so saw very little in the way of real chances for either team, but from then on Halilovic started combining in various ways with Joan Román, Cámara and Dongou and the Galician defence was called into action on several occasions. However, David López of Lugo probably had the best chance of the half, but Barça B keeper Ortolá did well, shortly before Halilovic came close at the other end. And with seconds of the half remaining, Dongou finally found the net, but the referee denied him the goal on the grounds of a somewhat debateable offside call.[[DES_2]]

Goal without response

The second half saw a much improved Barça B, but they were still failing to find solutions in attack. Lugo managed to create small amounts of danger on the counter, with Luis Fernández almost converting an Iriome cross. And then, just after Barça’s Juan Cámara had brought out the best in José Juan with a long range strike, Iriome scored the only goal of the game, a fine volley that Ortolá could do nothing about.

Lugo camped out in their own area for the final 24 minutes, but try as they did, Barça B could find no way back. Grimaldo’s free kick onto the crossbar was the closest they got, but they finished up empty handed and will be seeking to make amends next week at the Nuevo Sardinero against Racing Santander.
