Barça B beat Lugo and take first three points of the season

Eusebio's team won through a late goal from Espinosa, after an earlier strike by Joan Román. Espinosa dedicated his goal to Sergio Juste who suffered a serious injury earlier this week.

Barça B took their first three points of the season with a 2-1 win over Lugo. Eusebio’s youngsters went ahead with an individual goal from  Joan Román in the first half and although the Galicians equalised  soon after wards, a late strike from Espinosa gave the hosts their first points of the campaign.

Chances few and far between

It was a midfield battle at the start of the game, with Barça B unable to release Espinosa and Edu Bedia, though Eusebio’s side took the initiative and soon forced Lugo back into their own half, with both full backs pushing forward to give an extra man out wide.

Wide man Joan Román duly set up the opener, breaking down the line supported by Planas and after a neat interchange he fired home low past the visitors’ keeper, with what was his team’s first attempt on goal.

Tough going despite the goal

Despite taking the lead, Barça B were still finding it tough to dominate, with their key players being shut out by the well organised Lugo defence and the visitors began to create their own chances, with Sandaza sending in a pile driver on 20 minutes.

The same player them drew the teams level with a well taken goal after a pass from Pablo Álvarez .Joan Román was still at the heart of everything for Barça, but the Lugo defence was choking his creative impulses. Patric then came close before the break, but the teams went in level after 45 minutes.

Changes at the break

Eusebio brought on Sandro for Dongou after the break, with Dani Nieto moving into the centre of attack, but despite the team’s movement upfront, Lugo maintained their stranglehold and indeed created their own chances on the break and Rennella saw a cross come back off the post as Sergi Gómez just deflected the ball away.

Espinosa pops up to score

Babunski was brought on for the tiring Joan Román, but a draw increasingly looked like the most likely result until Espinosa popped up with an individual effort to make it 2-1. Espinosa then dedicated his goal to Sergio Juste, who suffered a serious injury earlier this week.

Lugo now threw caution to the wind, though Masip and the Barça defence stood firm to ensure the first three points for Eusebio’s team who next week are away to newly relegated Zaragoza.
