Barça have won the Copa del Rey for an extraordinary 24th time! Reus Deportiu Virignias never stood a chance in Sunday’s final, as goals from Matias Pascual (2), Joao Rodrigues and Nil Roca rounded off a perfect weekend with a 4-0 win.
Rodrigues scored a rebound off his own penalty to get things moving after eight minutes, and Matias Pascual scored both of his goals before the interval to leave things on perfect course.
Reus, who had missed a first half penalty, could find no way back and Nil Roca converted a splendid assist from Pau Bargalló (named MVP of the competition) to finish off the job.
The victory made for disappointment in last season’s cup at Riazor and becomes the 130th major trophy won by the rink hockey team.
For retiring Aitor Egurrola it was an amazing 12th time he’s won the trophy, moving ahead of Jordi Trias, who won eleven with Espanyol between 1944 and 1962. Egurrola’s 78 trophies are more than any Barça player in any sport!
Edu Castro has now coached the team to 17 out of a possible 23 trophies.
And there could still be more to come. Barça’s attention now switches to the Parlem OK Liga playoffs, which start on Saturday 14 May (12.00pm CEST) at the Palau Blaugrana, which is doubling as the celebrations for half a decade of roller hockey at the venue.
