FC Barcelona women win Parliament Medal of Honour

The highest distinction is granted to the European champion team

This year the Parliament of Catalonia has awarded its highest distinction, the Medal of Honour, to the FC Barcelona women's team.

It is the first time a sports team has won the award, and it recognises the growth, professionalisation and equal opportunities in the women's game. It is also honoured for setting such a fine example for young girls, changing people's perceptions of women's sport and helping to build a fairer, more equal society.

The team is widely regarded for its talents and for upholding such important values as team-work, respect for opponents, effort, responsibility and companionship.

Winners since 2000

The Medal of Honour has been awarded since 2000, and has been won by a number of important political, artistic and other Catalan institutions, such as economist and politician Ernest Lluch (2001), the Fundació Institut Guttmann (2015); the Mossos d'Esquadra police force, emergency services Barcelona Guardia Urbana and the Cambrils police force (2017), Catalan healthcare workers (2020) and former Barça football manager Josep Guardiola (2010).
