The confetti is blaugrana! Xavi Pascual’s side were in typically dominant fashion and won the Copa Asobal for a staggering NINTH year in a row, winning 30-22 at the Huerta del Rey pavilion, with Dika Mem leading the scoring in an all-round brilliant handball performance.
Bidasoa Irún were solid in defence early on, and Barça struggled to make their mark on the game, but eventually managed to out three points between themselves and the opposition. From there on, they were in complete control. And with a 6-point lead at the break, things were starting to look very positive indeed.
They quite simply refused to let the opposition get any kind of hold on the game, and a fifteenth cup trophy in a tournament first contested in 1991 was always on the cards.
For Xavi Pascual and Víctor Tomàs that’s now ten of the last 11 editions of the competition. For Raúl Entrerríos and Cedric Sorhaindo, who came to Barça in the summer of 2010, it’s their ninth. At the other extreme, this was the first time Luka Cindric, Abel Serdio and Alex Pascual have got to savour victory in this competition.
With the Catalan and Spanish Super Cups, plus the Super Globe, already in the bag, that’s now four titles that the handball team have already won this season.
