The attendance for the Champions League semi-final with Liverpool was the third highest at Camp Nou in the last five years

The Camp Nou not a temple? Are you serious! There are few places that compare with the FC Barcelona stadium when it comes to venues for big nights of European football. A massive 98,299 spectators packed into the stadium for Wednesday’s night clash with Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.

It was the biggest attendance of the season, with even bigger turnouts than for the game with Manchester United in the previous round, the cup and league Clásicos with Real Madrid, or the high-profile Liga clashes with Espanyol and Atlético Madrid, all of which drew crowds of over 90,000 to the stadium.

In fact, it was the third biggest attendance of the last five years, only topped by the games with Real Madrid in the previous two seasons: 99,264 in 2015/16 and 98,760 in 2014/15.

In the 28 games played at home this term, Barça have welcomed an extraordinary 2,175,244 people to the ground, already 9% more than last season’s figure.
