Valencia Mestalla 1–0 Barça B: Unfair defeat

The blaugrana's second best unbeaten streak of the season is broken in a match in which they deserved much more

Barça B were beaten at the Antonio Puchades Stadium in a game where fortune deserted them. Garcia Pimienta's side dominated the match and had the best chances, but the performance of Valencia Mestalla's goalkeeper and a rival counterattack, ending with a goal by Fran Navarro, prevented the visitors from winning.

In the opening stages of the game the blaugrana overwhelmed their opponents and had the first chance when a shot from Carles Pérez went just wide (min 6). They continued to push forward and Mujica was off target with his effort. In the 41st minute Barça's No.9 tried to surprise Emilio, but the Valencian goalkeeper saved well and managed to ensure a clean sheet at half-time.

Goalkeeping excellence

In the first action of the second half Mujica had another opportunity but Emilio was equal to it again, as he was from a shot by Carles Pérez in the area (min 55).

With Barça B pushing for the win the game started to open up. The hosts, who hadn't tested Iñaki Peña, mounted a lethal counterattack that ended with a goal from Fran Navarro (1-0, min 80). The visitors immediately tried to get back on terms and, but for Emilio, a powerful shot from Monchu (min 83) would've hit the back of the net.

Despite deserving the three points, Barça B are now sixth with 49 points, and with four matches left to finish the League season. The first of that quartet will be at the Miniestadi against Badalona.
