Barça B 0-1 RCD Espanyol B: No luck in the derby

The reserves control the game from start to finish but fail to convert their many chances into goals

Barça B have lost had home to Espanyol B in the ‘reserve derby’ at the Miniestadi despite controlling the game from start to finish. Solid defending from the visitors and a lack of accuracy when finishing off chances condemned the blaugrana to a defeat they didn’t really deserve.

It had been a battle of defences, with neither side enjoying anything in the way of major chances before Bermejo put the blue-and-whites a goal to the good on 20 minutes.

Barça pushed hard in search of an equaliser, and were even more intense after the break, but Collado fired over the bar and the visiting keeper did well to keep out a powerful strike from Guillem.

Those were the best of many chances that went begging, and the result leaves Barça B eight points adrift of the top four and a path into the playoffs.

Next up is ninth placed Ebro on Sunday 24 March at 12.00pm CET.
