Five from FC Barcelona in World Championship quarter finals

Tomás, Morros, Entrerríos, Pérez de Vargas and Saric are all through to the next round

[[DES_1]]There was good and bad news for the Barça players in the round of 16 at the Qatar World Championship. The four in the Spain team beat Jallouz’s Tunisia 28-20 and Saric and Qatar defeated Austria. Kiril Lazarov’s Macedonia bowed out against Slovenia, while Monday brings Sigurdsson against Noddesbo and Karabatic and Sorhaindo are in action for France against Argentina.

Spain through

Pérez de Vargas, Entrerríos and Morros all started against Tunisia and Jallouz. With the score at 18-9 by half-time, there was only ever going to be one winner. Víctor Tomás joined the action later on, and Spain eventually won 28-20, with Barça’s Pérez de Vargas getting the MVP award.

On Wednesday, Spain will face the winners of the match between Iceland, featuring Sigurdsson, and Denmark, featuring Noddesbo.

Saric and Qatar into last eight

Qatar trailed 14-13 to Austria at half-time in their match, whereupon Valero Rivera opted to put Danjel Saric in goal. His saves and some tremendous attack from Markovic and Capote eventually won the tie for Qatar (29-27), who will play Germany or Egypt in the quarters.

All over for Lazarov

Slovenia and Kiril Lazarov’s Macedonia played a tight encounter that was 16-15 to the Slovenes at half-time, with four goals from Lazarov.

But Slovenia finally edged into a three-goal lead after the break and managed to control that situation to perfection, eventually triumphing 30-28.
