Paris Saint-Germain's road to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League

PSG took out Chelsea in the last round after overcoming some very big obstacles They finished second behind Barça in Group F, winning in Paris but falling at Camp Nou

FCBarcelona’s coming quarter-final opponents in the UEFAChampionsLeague are tough. At least tough enough to get to the quarters by knocking out Chelsea. In Paris, the Blues secured a 1–1 draw on the back of great goalkeeping by Thibaut Courtois, putting PSG at a certain disadvantage going into the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

But not only did PSG overcome the draw in the first leg, they also survived the expulsion of Zlatan Ibrahimovic during the first half in London, plus a GaryCahill goal ten minutes from time that seemed to have sealed their fate. Nevertheless, DavidLuiz’s, 87th-minute goal managed to force overtime, where more drama would come. A penalty kick converted by EdenHazard on 95 minutes and big stops by Courtois were no match for a header from ThiagoSilva that found the net for a 2–2 tie on 113 minutes. PSG went through on away goals on a 3–3 aggregate score.

Barça top PSG in group stage

The upcoming FC Barcelona v PSG quarter-final tie in the Champions League will bring the two teams face to face yet again. They also played in the quarter-finals of the 2012/13 season and in the group stage earlier this year.

Barça won group F, while Paris Saint-Germain had to settle for second place. The group was decided at the Camp Nou in the last game of the stage when Barça defeated PSG 3–1 on a magical night with goals from Neymar, Messi and Suárez, overcoming an early Ibrahimovic score.

This victory neutralised Barça’s defeat at the Parc des Princes in the second match of the group stage. That night, Neymar and Messi scored but so did David Luiz, Verratti and Matuidi, handing PSG a 3–2 victory, their first of the tournament after drawing away to Ajax, 1–1.

After beating Barca, Paris Saint-Germain were in first place in Group F until their defeat at Camp Nou. PSG beat APOEL 1–0 both at home and away, and defeated Ajax 3-1 in Paris. Now in the quarterfinals, the Parisians will get another shot at the Catalans.
