There were varying fortunes for two of FC Barcelona’s rivals in the International Champions Cup. Manchester United, Barça’s opponents on Saturday in San Francisco, beat San José Eathquakes 3-1 with strikes from Mata, Depay and Pereira. For their part, Fiorentina, the blaugranes’ opponents on 2 August in Florence, lost 4-2 against Paris Saint-Germain, Joaquín and Guiseppe Rossi scoring for the Italians.
The team coached by former Barça coach Louis Van Gaal did not encounter too many problems in the match against Major League Soccer opponents. Spanish international Juan Mata put the Red Devils ahead with a well taken goal in the 32nd minute.
United continued on top and five minute later new signing Memphis Depay made it 2-0 to the Premier League side. Fatai Alashe pulled one back for San José with just three minutes of the first half remaining. In the second half United maintained their dominance and sealed the victory with third courtesy of Andreas Pereira.
Fiorentina were never really in the contest in their game against French Champions PSG. Matuidi put the Parisians ahead ten minutes before half time and Jean-Kevin Augustin made it 2-0 before half time.
In the second half former Betis, Valencia and Málaga winger Joaquín pulled one back for the Italians with a great effort from outside the box. Former blaugrana Zlatan Ibrahimovic made it 3-1 for the French side on 69 minutes. More goals were to come. Agustin scored his second put PSG 4-1 up before Rossi scored from the spot to hand Fiorentina some consolation from their 4-2 defeat.
