The Lanxess Arena awaits the Barça handball team again! They are going to fight for their second Champions League title in a row, unprecedented since the Final Four format began. Carlos Ortega's men defeated Flensburg-Handewitt 27-24 in the quarterfinal return leg in front of a fervent Palau Balugrana, booking their place in the last four in Cologne on June 18 and 19.
It was a tough task, as the German side matched Barça for goals, with the scoreboard showing a draw after the first half (10-10, 30th min.) and after the restart (20-20, 50th min.). However, Barça had the four goal advantage from the first leg (29-33) that allowed them to play more freely to some extent. The home side also took the game to the visitors with Buric having to make eight stops in the first half.
The minutes ticked down in Barça's favour, however, as they were always ahead of the German side, finally sealing the win with two and a half minutes to go, when a great defensive action led to Ariño scoring (26-23, 57th min.).
Final score 27-24, confirming classification for the Final Four with confidence high. Cologne here we come!
