Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil 27-34 Barça: Strong as ever

Despite struggling in the early minutes, the league champions eventually motor their way to another big win

Barça put the the bad news this week of an injury to pivot Ludovic Fabregas behind them and with the result immaterial after already being confirmed champions, Barça took a serious attitude to Saturday’s game to keep the winning streak going and ready themselves for the European quarter final against SG Flensburg-Handewitt on Wednesday 11 May at 6.45pm CEST.

Relegation threatened Puente Genil started strong, but Barça would eventually win it by 11. With Leo Maciel excelling with a 50% save rate early on, the Cordoban menace was quickly quelled, and Barça already led by five at the break.

That cushion soon got softer still, and despite a noble effort by the home side to mount an unlikely comeback, Barça were in cruise mode by now and ended up the comfortable victors.
