Barça 30-27 Abanca Ademar León: 12th Super Cup in a row!

Following a fabulous game of handball, Carlos Ortega wins his first trophy as senior team manager

Barça have won the Spanish Super Cup yet again! On Saturday night in Torrelavega (Cantabria) they defeated Abanca Ademar León in a fiercely competitive encounter. The opposition were largely in control of a first half that Barça just could not get fully to grips with. But Carlos Ortega switched things up a notch after the restart and managed to end up winning by a three point margin in front of president Joan Laporta.

Barça have now won the trophy a record 24 times since it was introduced in 1985-86, and an incredible 12 times in a row.

It was an especially emotional moment for coach Ortega, who won the title five times as a player, and has now collected his first silverware as the man in charge.

For Aitor Ariño this was his tenth Spanish Super Cup winners medal, while for newcomers Melvyn Richardson, Ali Zein, Ángel Fernández and Leo Maciel it was a brand new experience.

Next Tuesday, Barça have the chance to add a new trophy to their collection as they take on Fraikin Granollers in the Catalan Super Cup Final.
