Real Madrid v Barça in the quarter finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League

The draw provided a March Clasico doubleheader, with the winner to face Arsenal or Wolfsburg in the semis

The pairing of Real Madrid and Barça is the standout fixture from the Women's Champions League quarterfinal draw on Monday in Nyon. The first leg will be played in Madrid on March 22/23, with the second leg a week later in Barcelona. This will be the first ever women's football Cl´ssico in Europe. In the most recent meeting between the sides - a week ago in the Liga - Barça won 3-1 away at the Alfredo di Stéfano stadium.

Real Madrid had qualified for the quarterfinals by finishing second in their group behind Paris Saint-Germain. Barça Women finished first ahead of Arsenal, having won all their group stage games. It is actually the ‘Gunners’ or Wolfsburg who await the winner in the semi-finals in April.

The quarterfinals on the other side of the draw are Bayern Munich v PSG and Juventus v Olympique de Lyon.

Coach Jonatan Giráldez's reaction

“Playing a Clasico against Real Madrid is another source of motivation. We know them well given the historical rivalry between the clubs. It is still a long way off, so things are calm now, but it will be a great and difficult game”.

"We know that we should approach every game as if it was our last, whatever the rival".
