Watched by 2,197 supporters, the Barça women made it 14 wins out of 14 in the domestic championship in a week in which they also secured progress to the Champions League quarter finals without dropping a single point either.
Rayo Vallecano proved a tough opponent to break down, but goals from Jana Fernández, Melaine Serrano, Jennifer Hermoso and Aitana Bonmati eventually got the job done.
Before the game, Hermoso received a commemorative shirt of her 200th appearance for the team and then went on to deliver the 15th minute cross that defender Jana Fernàndez headed in for the first goal (and already the 100th for the team this season).
Barça continued to dominate the possession, but the extremely defensive Rayo setup was very hard to find a way through, and the visitors also managed to create the occasional problem on the counter attack.
It took until the 80th minute for Barça to find a second goal, Melanie Serrano collecting the ball from Marta Torrejon and firing home an unstoppable finish.
There were two more goals to come, both right at the very end. Jennifer Hermoso converted a penalty and then Aitana Bonmatí got the fourth deep into injury time with a tremendous strike from outside the area.
Barça will close 2021 on Wednesday at 5.00pm CET with a game against Madrid CFF.
