2-0 away win takes Barça Women closer to the title

A brace from Bruna gives Lluís Cortés' side victory over Madrid CFF, taking them to 25 wins in as many games

Barça Women took a very important 0-2 victory at the Antiguo Canódromo against Madrid CFF on Wednesday, in a Matchday 15 contest originally suspended due to the snow in January. As a result, they claimed three more points that take them closer to the league title. Barça Women have won all 25 games played so far, and now only need 4 points to be crowned champions.

A brace by Bruna was decisive in the game, played in a key week in the Champions League. Coach Lluís Cortés made several rotations, such as with Cata Coll in goal and Jana, Bruna and Emma Ramírez in the starting lineup.

Bruna the standout

Against tough opponents who are having a great season, Barça Women tried to dominate the match through possession. They gradually adapted to the size of the pitch, the smallest in the Primera División, and began to enjoy chances.

A cross from Melanie fell only just out of the reach of Crnogorcevic to finish (min. 16), and a great Barça move that the Swiss player herself sent over (min. 27) were good chances for Barça Women. But it was Bruna, with a powerful shot from inside the area on 31 minutes, that broke the deadlock. It was her sixth goal of the season.

There would be no further change in the scoreline until the latter stages of the second half, as Madrid CFF provided problems for Barça to combine passes and get close to goal.

However, with just 7 minutes remaining, Bruna stole the ball from the home defence and finished to make it 0-2.

A 25th victory in 25 games means that Barça Women are moving ever closer towards the league title.
