The league season ended in Sunday with Barça losing 2-0 at home to Villarreal. There have been plenty of ups and downs throughout an eventful campaign, and here we take a statistical look back at the 38 games.
38 was also the number of players used by Barça in this year’s edition, four more than second-placed Espanyol and Valencia (34). Barça scored 68 goals in the competition, a record only topped by Real Madrid (80).

Memphis was Barça’s top scorer this season with 12 goals, followed by Aubameyang (11) and Luuk de Jong (6).
Unusually, Barça excelled this season with goals scored from headers. No fewer than 16 of the 68 goals were scored that way, by Luuk de Jong (5), Araujo and Aubameyang (3), Gavi, Piqué Ferran Jutglà, Memphis and Braithwaite (1).
Barça had to settle for third in shots per game in 2021/22. The blaugrana averaged 4.95 per game, but Real Madrid (259) and Betis (189) had more.
The team conceded an average of exactly one goal per game in 2021/22.
That’s the team’s average percentage of possession this season, once again topping the league in this category. Next on the list come Real Madrid (60.06%) and Sevilla (5985%).
Barça also led La Liga for completed passes, totalling 20,507 (593.66 per game). Some way behind come Real Madrid (20,445) and Sevilla (17,265). Sergio Busquets was Barça’s top passer, and also the league’s, with 2,424, followed by Jordi Alba (2,071) and Toni Kroos of Real Madrid (2,040).
The number of minutes played by Sergio Busquets, who clocked up the most time in a Barça shirt this year, with Ter Stegen (3,150) and Jordi Alba (2,548) just behind.
