Stat of the day | 29: Messi's goals in finals

Five years have passed since the Argentine's spectacular goal against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey final at Camp Nou. But ... do you remember Messi's other goals in finals?

29 goals in finals. Champions League, Copa del Rey, European Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup, Club World Cup ... Leo Messi knows how to score in any type of final. The Argentinean has a total of 29 goals in the 38 finals he has played for Barça, and this Saturday, May 30, is five years since of one of the best goals he's scored: the spectacular solo effort against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey final played at the Camp Nou. That day, the Catalans won 3-1, their second title of a historic treble-winning season. What do you think is his best goal in a final? Participate!

In 2009, the first

Also against Athletic and also in the Copa del Rey, he scored his first goal in a final. It was in 2009 when the Catalans won 4-1, the first title of the historic treble winning season of 2008/09. Since then, the Argentine has scored a total of 29 goals in finals: two in the Champions League, seven in the Copa del Rey, four in the Club World Cup, three in the European Super Cup and 13 in the Spanish Super Cup. Spectacular figures.

After the 2009 final against Athletic, Messi would get another in the Champions League final that year, in Rome against Manchester United. He followed that with two more in the Spanish Super Cup against the Basque team, and then later, against Estudiantes in the final of the Club World Cup, to close 2009. In 2010, he would score three in the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla, and in 2011, he grabbed one in the Champions League final against Manchester United, three in the Spanish Super Cup against Madrid, one against Porto in the European Super Cup and a double against Santos in the Club World Cup. In 2012, he managed another goal in the Copa del Rey against Athletic and two more in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid.

After a bad streak, almost three years later, Messi scored again in a final: the double against Athletic in the 2015 Copa del Rey final, just five years ago. That same year, he scored a double in the European Super Cup against Sevilla, a goal against Athletic in the Spanish Super Cup and another in the Club World Cup final against River Plate. In recent years, he's netted in the 2016 Super Cup against Sevilla, in the Copa del Rey final against Alavés (2017), in the Super Cup against Madrid (2017), the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla (2018) and another in the Copa del Rey final against Valencia (2019). Let's hope he can continue the streak soon.
