Barça Atlètic 2-2 Atlético Baleares: Two-goal lead slips away

An eighth game without defeat, but this was one point that could have been three

Barça Atlètic have failed to make it four wins in a row after being held to a 2-2 draw by Atlético Baleares at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Luismi Cruz and Moha scored the goals that had the Barça reserves on due course for a win, but an injury to Pelayo was just the first of a series of unfortaunte events that saw the visitors score twice in three minutes to neutralise the blaugrana command.

But a point is still a point and keeps the team in good stead for place in the promotion playoffs.

The outstanding Àlex Carbonell earned the penalty that got the home side off the mark, which was confidently tucked away by Luismi Cruz. It had been a tight first half half without too many chances, but Barça Atlètic took them when they came, and just as the opposition were playing some of their most dangerous football, Moha was able to bang home right on the edge of half-time.

After the break, Rafa Márquez's charges looked in full control of their destiny, but everything went pear-shaped in the flash of an eyelid as both Dioni and Xisco scored in quick succession.

A frustrated Barça Atlètic pushed forward in a fervent quest to get their lead back, while the islanders were more intent of defending their point than risking things in search of the win. There were late chances of a blaugrana victory, but nothing came of them.

That's eight games in a row undefeated at Estadi Johan Cruyff, but there's no doubt that the players will feel that today was an opportunity missed.
