FC Barcelona commemorates its 123rd anniversary

The Club launches a video manifesto which features the city of Barcelona and several Barça players like Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, Ronald Araujo, Sergio Busquets, Alexia Putellas, and Aitana Bonmatí along with anonymous fans

Today, November 29, FC Barcelona is celebrating its 123rd anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the Club is launching a video manifesto to highlight its emblematic motto of 'Més que un Club' (More than a Club) and the main pillars that define the Club’s uniqueness.

The video features members of both the men’s and women’s football teams, players like Robert Lewandowski, Pedri, Ronald Araujo, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Patri Guijarro, and María León, along with different beneficiaries of Barça Foundation programs and other FC Barcelona fans. The video is set among the streets and of Barcelona and its emblematic areas, highlighting the close relationship between the Club and the city.

‘Més que un Club’

Around the world, Barça is known as ‘Més que un Club,’ which means ‘More than a Club.’ Based on this motto, the video manifesto states that ‘We are +’ and ‘ We want to be more’.  The word ‘More’ is replaced by the plus sign to symbolize the Club’s efforts to add to society and make a positive impact through sport. Among FC Barcelona’s biggest contributions are its social commitment as exemplified by the Barça Foundation, its support for women’s football and the role of women in sport, and its daily work in building a Club that is more inclusive and more diverse while at the same time raising awareness of the importance of building a fairer and more equal society for everyone.

The video also emphasizes other elements that make Barça ‘More than a Club,’ such as the FC Barcelona youth academy, La Masia, which provides a valuable, lifelong education to its students through sport; the Club’s unique style of play that underscores passing as the main catalyst to everything that happens on the field; and its ownership model, through which the Club is managed by its more than 142,000 members.
