'It’s about the journey', a documentary about Pau Gasol available on Barça TV+

A month after he retired from the courts, basketball fans from around the world can tune in to Barça TV + and watch a documentary about one of the best basketball players of all time

The docuseries, called “It’s about the journey”, is a four-part series relating Gasol’s long journey of recovery after his injury in November 2018, which left him sidelined for two years, until he rejoined FC Barcelona, the team where he made his professional debut, and was able to take part in his fifth Olympic Games. Pau announced his retirement after the Tokyo Olympics and one month later he bid farewell to basketball in an emotional press conference.

Barça fans can enjoy the series via the Club’s streaming platform anywhere around the world, except in Spain,  where it is shown exclusively on Amazon Prime.

Directed by Oriol Bosch, the series delves into three years of Gasol’s life, focused around the evolution of the injury to the navicular bone in his left foot. The recovery was slow and complicated, necessitating different operations before ultimately requiring stem cell therapy. There are unexpected twists, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, making his dream of returning to the courts even more difficult.

Despite all the pessimistic medical reports, Gasol doesn’t throw in the towel and keeps striving to get back. Ultimately the pandemic wasn’t all bad for him, as the Tokyo Games were postponed for a year, which gave him more time to recover. Pau decided to return to Barça to help the Club grow and win the Liga ACB, fight to final of the EuroLeague, and get back in form for his fifth Olympic Games.

The documentary sees Gasol supported by his family, friends, working team and people from the world of medicine and business who accompany and support him in fulfiling his dream of returning to the courts. It also features some true stars of the game, such as Phil Jackson, his coach at Los Angeles Lakers, and the players Kevin Garnett, Shane Battier, Lamar Odom and Tony Parker.
