Barça Lassa have secured a victory which shows their fighting spirit and character as they are already out of the Euroleague mathematically. Bartzokas’ side, who were missing Tomic through suspension, were able to overcome the hurdles and beat Red Star at the Palau Blaugrana. Stratos Perperoglou, with 17 punts, and Petteri Koponen, with 13, led the charge for the Catalans on the night.
Two three pointers from Rice and Vezenkov at the start set Barça on the right path from the start. Their good defence prevented any easy points for the away team. Barça Lassa were missing Tomic and Faverani but they could make light of these absences. They led throughout the first quarter until the final moments when they ended it a point behind (17-18).
At the start of the second quarter, the blaugranas imposed themselves on the game thanks to a combined effort from the whole team, with Koponen contributing seven points. Their lead was small but Barça Lassa were in control.
Sprinting to victory
At the break Barça led by only three points (32-29), but at the start of the third quarter they shifted up a geat and opened a commanding lead of ten points. Red Star are fighting to get into the playoffs and they threw everything at Barça. They were able to get within six points of the Catalans but Barça responded through Perperoglou and Koponen.
The final score of 67-54 was just reward for the home side’s performance and was the 11th victory in the Euroleague. The win helped restore confidence ahead of some crucial Endesa League fixtures in the coming weeks.
