Calathes is unable to celebrate his comeback with a victory
Barça were playing catch-up for most of the night and ended up being defeated on Thursday in Kazan. They could never get comfortable in offence and although defensive intensity kept them in the game, it wasn’t to be. Higgins (17) and Davies (16) led the scoring.
With Calathes back in the side, Barça trailed throughout the first period, but never by a major margin. And with Smits making a strong contribution, they started find more of their game in the second, and led by four at the interval.
Unics Kazan quickly cancelled out that led and then marched on a game-changing 10-0 streak culminated by a fine three from Vorontsevich. The Catalans were on the back foot, but they managed to salvage enough points to stay within four of their hosts going into the final period. This game was anything but lost.
