This afternoon FC Barcelona hosted an ample and select group of of media representatives who have gathered in Barcelona for the annual Global Editors Network (GEN) conference. The Camp Nou was the meeting place for this afternoon’s gathering, and President Josep Maria Bartomeu was in attendance.

Bartomeu welcomed the 500 journalists, and said, “We, FC Barcelona, need to be transparent, honest, competitive and have confidence, just like the press. Football is a mix of emotions and business. That’s why we have to be responsible and transparency is essential. Sports needs good journalism.”

GEN is a non-governmental organization, and its president is Ricardo Kirschbaum, chief editor of the Clarín group in Argentina. The 24 members who form the Board of Directors come from some of the most important media outlets in the world, like the BBC, CNN, El País, Frankfurter Allegemeine Zeitung, The Guardian and India Today, among others.

The GEN Summit is an annual event celebrated by this community of editors. This year the Summit is in Barcelona, and its purpose is to provide a place for editors to share experiences and passion for good journalism.
