F.C.Barcelona’s newest starlet straight out of La Masia

  • Anssumane Fati Vieira, also known as Ansu Fati, was born in Guinea Bissau on October 31st, 2002. Despite his early age, he has already shown great performance. At the age of 6 he arrived at Herrera, Andalusia, with his family. Shortly after, in December 2009, he was first registered as a football player for the Peloteros football academy. He managed to capture the attention of Sevilla F.C. and in 2012 they added him to their youth system. A year after that, Barça became aware of his talent and started training him in La Masia when he was 10 years old, becoming part of the Alevín A team.

During his time in the F.C.B.’s youth system, he played as a centre-forward striker and scored 56 goals in the league. His team won the traditional Easter MIC championship after facing the Real Madrid. He also won the beginner’s league tournament that was held in Granada that same year. He became the top scorer of the competition by scoring 7 goals, the last one being scored at the final.

However, his career came to a halt after being sanctioned by FIFA and because he suffered a severe fracture of the tibia and fibula while playing against the Espanyol, which had him off the playing field for several months.

After his recovery, Ansu Fati made his way into the Juvenil A, where he started playing in the leftmost position. This change helped him become an even better player.

Ansu Fati started officially wearing the colors of the main team on August 25th, 2019 at the Camp Nou against Real Betis Balompié. The day of his debut he became the second youngest rookie in the Liga to ever play for Barcelona. He was only 16 years, 9 months and 25 days old. Although he didn’t score any of the five goals the Barça scored that day (5-2), he was a nightmare for the rival defense.

During the next fixture on August 31st, 2019, he started the match on the bench but ended up helping Barça tie the match they were losing 1-0 against Osasuna, making him the youngest Liga scorer of FCB.

Ansu Fati is 1,78 m. tall, a fast striker, an overwhelming dribbler with an accurate pass and great scoring potential. On October 10th, 2019, FIFA confirmed he had officially become a Spanish citizen.

This young Barça striker has been a pleasant surprise for the 2019-2020 season. The skills he has shown promises a great future for the team.
