Estadi Johan Cruyff
14 September 2017 was the date that the first stone was laid for would become a brand new stadium with the capacity for 6,000 spectators (5,000 in the grandstand and 1,000 in the lower tier). On 27 August 2019, the Estadi Johan Cruyff, named after Barça’s legendary
Dutch player and manager, became a reality. The first part of the Espai Barça project is used for Barça B and Barça Women games, and also games played by the U19A and B teams. It also means that old Miniestadi is no longer staging those matches.
The Cruyff family together with numerous members of the club board, first team footballers,
and players from the women’s, B and youth teams, as well as former players and coaches, representatives of the Catalan Government and thousands of spectators were in attendance for the opening ceremony featuring music, dancing, football and more football.
Jordi Cruyff took the honorary kick-off, joined by the four senior team captains and Ferran Sarsanedas and Marta Torrejón, to officially launch the first completed part of the Espai Barça. The highlight of the opening day’s events was a friendly between the Barça and Ajax U19 teams, which the Dutch side won 2-0.
