There were four Barça players involved in the friendly game on Thursday night between The Friends of Messi and The Rest of the World. Pinto, Alves and Mascherano joined their Barça teammate Leo Messi, whilst their opponents featured a host of top name players led by Falcao, Forlán and Hamsik.
Pinto and Mascherano played the full 90 minutes, whilst Messi came off towards the end to be replaced by Alves, who was making his return after the injury which kept him out of the Spanish Cup Final.
The friendly game, held in Bogota (Colombia), was a real treat for the fans, as Messi himself admitted after the match: “I am very grateful to the people of Colombia and happy because the ground was virtually full. I enjoyed myself and I’m glad that the crowd had a good time”.
From 0-4 to 5-4
As tends to happen in games like this, there were plenty of goals and The Rest of The World raced into a 0-4 lead with goals from Falcao, Hamsik, Teófilo Gutiérrez and James Rodríguez. Messi’s team quickly came back though and Lavezzi, Robinho, Osvaldo, Messi and Álvaro González(o.g.) making it 5-4 at the break.
If the goals dried up a bit in the second half, the entertainment kept coming and after James Rodríguez and Falcao (penalty) and Robinho for Messi’s team had rounded off the scoring, it ended 6-6 – a fair reflection of an entertaining match!
