The first team squad have trained eight times this week with double sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
Eight members of the Barça B squad -Oier, Sergi Gómez, Planas, Sergi Roberto, Ilie, Rafinha, Kiko Femenía and Lobato- joined the senior players working out under Tito Vilanova and were boosted on Friday by the incorporation of team-mates Bañuz and Masip
Pre-season preparations began on Monday with a medical but the rest of the week has been characterised by an intense rhythm of training with double sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, as well as the presence of players from Barça B. A total of eight sessions have taken place this week.
Monday: Off the mark
The pre-season got underway on Monday with the usual medical for the 14 available players at the Club’s medial centre. Afterwards, the entire squad had lunch together.
Tuesday: First day of training
Tito Vilanova scheduled a double session for Tuesday at 9 am and 7 pm. In the morning, Eric Abidal dropped in on his team-mates at the training grounds and then continued with his recovery programme. The evening session was held behind closed doors.
The big news of the day was the presence of David Villa exercising alongside his team-mates together with Dani Alves and Fontàs, all under the watchful eyes of Club medical staff. Meanwhile, Isaac Cuenca exercised in the gym and Thiago Alcántara continued his recovery from injury. The sessions included eight players from Barça B who have remained all week - Oier, Sergi Gómez, Planas, Sergi Roberto, Ilie, Rafinha, Kiko Femenía and Lobato.
Wednesday: Another double session
With temperatures in Barcelona on the rise, the players sweated through another double session of training on Wednesday. Once again, Vilanova had 20 players available (12 from the first team, and 8 from Eusebio Sacristán’s Barça B -Oier, Sergi Gómez, Planas, Sergi Roberto, Ilie, Rafinha, Kiko Femenía and Lobato). Fontàs, Alves and Villa continued to exercise under medial supervision. As on Monday, Thiago and Cuenca exercised in the gym and did not appear on the training fields.
Thursday: Free evening
After two days of morning and evening training sessions, Tito Vilanova scheduled just the morning session for Thursday for the same group of 20 players. Club doctors continued to supervise Villa, Fontàs and Alves as they trained with the group while Thiago and Cuenca remained in the gym.
Friday: Four goalkeepers and Alves
Another double session. In the morning, the group was boosted to 22 by the incorporation of Barça B keepers Miguel Bañuz and Jordi Masip.
However, numbers dropped to just 19 players in the evening session as Tito decided not to include Bañuz and Masip. For his part, Kiko Femenía missed out due to a groin strain. On the plus side, Dani Alves was declared fit by Club doctors.
Saturday: Eighth and last session
The last session of the week. Nineteen players – the usual 20 minus Kiko Femenía - were on hand for the final session of the week while Thiago and Cuenca continued exercising in the gym.
Tito Vilanova gave his players the day off on Sunday but preparations for the season ahead will resume on Monday with another double session at 9 am and 7 pm.
