Ter Stegen saves the day in the Bernabéu

In his debut at Real Madrid’s stadium, the German goalkeeper made a total of 12 saves, the highest number by a Barça keeper for more than 12 years

The 3-2 victory on Sunday in the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid will live long in the memory of Barça fans thanks to Leo Messi’s breathtaking winner in injury time, his 500th in a Barça shirt in official competition. However, the contribution of goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegem cannot be underestimated. The German shot stopper made no less than 12 saves during the 90 minutes of El Clásico, one particular effort from Karim Benzema in the second half would have been worthy of a handball goalkeeper.

The dozen saves from Ter Stegen is the greatest number in a league or a Champions League game by a Barça keeper since the season 2003/04, cementing the importance of the German international in Luis Enrique’s team. Take a look at his outstanding performance in our specially prepared video above!
