Barça Intersport are very close to the Asobal League title after beating Fraikin Granollers in tonight’s Catalan derby at the Palau Blaugrana. A fantastic first half from Xavi Pascual’s men, who started with a 9-0 run, paved the way to victory. Barça Intersport are only one point away from successfully defending their title. If the Catalans beat Atlético Madrid next Saturday (20.15) at the Palau Blaugrana they will be the Asobal League champions with two games still left to play.
Meteoric start
Barça Intersport started the match with impressive pace, Granollers, on the other hand, struggled to find Barça’s goal. After the first goal of the match, which was scored by Nendic, the Azulgranas went on a 9-0 run. Xavi Pascual’s men were very accurate on offence, while Granollers weren’t off to the best start. However, little by little, the team managed by Manolo Cadenas were able to cut into Barça’s ample advantage (11 goals). Both the teams went to the break with Barça enjoying a commanding lead of nine goals (17-8).
The match evens out
In the second half, Barça played at a slower pace. Granollers, who made fewer mistakes in the second half, tried to take advantage of the situation. In the ensuing 30 minutes the teams practically scored the same amount of goals, 16 for Barça and 15 for Granollers. It was a very different half from the first. However, a spectacular Juanín, highest goal scorer of the match, and an almost unbeatable Daniel Saric, who saved three penalties, led Barça to the victory.
Now the Azulgranas have a week to prepare for their next match in the Liga against the always difficult Atlético Madrid. With the Palau Blaugrana’s supporters, Barça Alusport will look to seal the League title.
