The Azulgrana wins the award for being the player that featured in the most Asobal matches throughout the 2011/12 season
Sirahei Rutenka was awarded the 2011/12 Asobal Powerade trophy, a distinction given to the player that featured in the most Asobal games in the previous season.
Every matched played
FC Barcelona Intersport’s Belorussian player was on the court for each and every Asobal match in the 2011/12 season.
He played 30 matches in the Liga, 3 in the Copa del Rey, 2 in the Asobal Cup and one in the Super Cup. Rutenka was also FC Barcelona’s highest scorer in the Asobal League with 146 goals, fourth-best in last season’s highest scorer standings.
Rutenka’s brilliant season-long performance earned him a contract extension that will keep him at the Cub through the 2015/16 season.
Three out of four
The Powerade trophy has been given out four times. The inaugural edition of the award, in 2008/09, was given to the Azulgrana striker Víctor Tomás. Barça’s Daniel Saric won the award the following season.
Barça’s two-year run winning the title was broken in the 2010/11 season, when the award went to BM Atlético Madrid’s Isaias Guardiola. However, the Powerade trophy is back in Barcelona this year, which means that Barça have won a total of three of the four editions of the award.
