The ex-FC Barcelona handball player has died of cancer at the age of 55 in Cologne.
Handball is in mourning after the announcement on Thursday night of the death of Erhard Wunderlich at the age of 55 after a brave struggle against cancer. Wunderlich had a sparkling career in the game after he began his career with his home town team of Augsburg.
Wunderlich made his name in the 1980s when he played for the German team Gummersbach, with whom he won the European Cup. He joined Barça for the 1983/84 season and became the first international star to play for the team.
In his single season at the Club, Wunderlich helped Barça to win the Cup Winners Cup, before returning to Germany where he continued to play until his retirement in the early 90s.
