The tournament, which will be held in the Mexian capital, will pit FC Barcelona against South American teams like Chivas and Boca Juniors. The Juvenil B team will depart for Central America this Friday evening at 21.00 and arrive in Mexico on Saturday at 5.30. Barça’s first match will be on Monday, August 13, against Club América, in Coapa.
Chivas and Boca, two powerhouse teams
Pimienta’s men have been placed in Group A, along with Club América, Chivas, Boca Juniors and Monarcas. The Catalans will kick off their tournament bid against Club América, but the team will face its most difficult opponents in the group on Wednesday and Thursday, against Boca Juniors and Chivas, respectively. The Argentinian team are a strong contender to win the tournament, even though Barça are favourites. Barça’s last opponent in the group stage will be Monarcas.
The semi-finals will be played on Saturday, August 18, against the teams from Group B, where Cruz Azul, Pumas, Pachuca, Inter Porto Alegre and Fiorentina have been placed. If Barça manage to qualify for the final, they’ll play in the championship match on Sunday the 19th. The final will be played at Azteca Stadium, one of the most emblematic football stadiums of the country.
Pimienta’s men will return to Barcelona on the Monday, August 20, where they will continue to prepare for the beginning of the Liga.
