Barça sweetest memory of games against Paris Saint-Germain was on May 14, 1997, in the Cup Winners Cup Final, when they beat the side from the French capital 1-0 thanks to a goal from Brazilian striker Ronaldo, scored from the penalty spot in the 37th minute. The game was played at the De Kuip in Rotterdam. That was the fourth time FC Barcelona, managed that season by Bobby Robson, won the now defunct trophy, and the two sides have never met since.
Shortly before, in the 1994/95 Champions league, Johan Cruyff’s Barça side met PSG, managed at the time by Luis Fernández, in the quarter finals. The first leg at the Camp Nou ended 1-1 and in the return leg, PSG put the Catalans out of the competition with a 2-1 win at the Parc des Princes.
Two friendlies: one draw and a win
Barça and PSG, who meet again on Saturday, first played each other on April 19, 1977 in a friendly. Parc des Princes was the venue, and the game ended 1-1, Barcelona’s goal scored by their future manager Johan Cruyff.
Five years later, on November 13, 1982, Quini, Maradona, Alonso and Morán scored the goals in a 4-1 friendly victory in France. That was the first time that Barcelona had beaten the Parisian outfit. The last time Barça beat PSG in a friendly was on June 25, 1987 at the Giuseppe Meazza in Malan. FCB won 3-1 with two goals from Gary Lineker in the first half and a third from Mark Hughes with a quarter of an hour to go.
