Tito Vilanova’s Barça notched up its eighth victory in La Liga this evening away to Rayo Vallecano, which allows the Blaugrana to preserve the top spot of La Liga and equal the Club’s best-ever start in the domestic competition. With eight victories and one draw from the nine matches played so far this year, the Blaugrana have equalled the record set by Louis van Gaal’s FC Barcelona in the 1997/98 season.
The record can be broken next weekend
In the 1997/98 season, Van Gaal’s men had won eight matches and secured one draw from their first nine La Liga games but they lost at home on Week 10 to Valladolid at the Camp Nou (1-2). Therefore, Vilanova’s men have the chance to break the record next weekend if they are able to tie or defeat Celta.
