Barça midfielder stresses the importance of the league title for the squad
Thiago is wary of Atletico Madrid, who have already ensured third spot
Rafinha has a great future
Thiago was also asked about his brother Rafinha who plays with the B team and he was adamant that: “he’s always been a leader in every team he’s played in and also a great teammate. I know him well and I am sure he’ll get his chance and bring great things to the team”.
The league title is within Barça’s grasp and in a press conference this Thursday, Thiago Alcàntara confirmed: “it’s a big prize, a great title, we want it badly and we are well aware how important it is. We’ve been fighting for this all season, last year we lost the title and we want it back. It’s a lovely title, sometimes you get so used to winning it’s as if you don’t value the title, but I can tell you that here in the squad we know how hard it has been to face up to and win so many games”.
Calderón the first priority
Barça need Real Madrid to fail to win against Espanyol, or themselves beat Atletico Madrid on Sunday if they are to lift the title this weekend and Thiago is clear about which is the most important thing: “our game is the biggest for us – whatever Real Madrid do. The Calderon is never an easy place to go to and win. Atletico Madrid are in next year’s Champions League and they are through to the Cup final. There’s still plenty of time for them to focus on that final and I am sure they will give us a very tough game”.
Happy with his season
Thiago also revealed that he was “very satisfied” with his own performances this season, explaining: “I had a couple of injuries at the start and taking that into account I think I’ve finished the season well. I try and get more games each season and although those early injuries affected the whole season, it’s been a good year. I’m a squad player and I just want to get game time and help the team”.
