The assistant manager believes that "the best possible way to come into the match against Madrid was to win the game against Osasuna"
"It’s true that I can be in contact during the game.” says Roura
Contact with Vilanova
Jourdi Roura confirmed that Tito Vilanova, who is not with the team at the moment, is in constant contact with his players and coaching staff. “He watches the games and we talk about all the decisions. It’s true that we can be in contact during the game.”
In the pre-match press conference ahead of this Sunday’s match, Jordi Roura was convinced that the team would be able to leave the Copa del Rey showdown with Real Madrid to one side and focus on the Liga game against Osasuna. Roura also understood that this Sunday’s match was much more important than some might think: “the best way to approach this match [against Madrid] was to win against Osasuna. I think we’re on the right track.”
In addition the manager talked about the possibility of reserving key players. “We’ve tried to rest players over the weeks. I think we presented a good team this evening.” On this Wednesday’s match at the Santiago Bernabéu, Roura rejected the idea that his team will go into the match as favourites: “it’s very difficult to talk about favourites when it comes to these games.”
Tito Vilanova’s assistant manager said that Osasuna “make it difficult to build up play from behind, but that also means that their defence is higher up the pitch - and that leaves a lot of space. We took advantage of that. When we broke through that barrier of pressure, our players on the wings and our forwards had a lot of room in front of them.”
“Messi is limitless”
On Leo Messi’s most recent goalscoring feat, Roura said, “when you’re with him every day the point comes when these things seem normal. But when you stop and reflect on what has been done you simply bring your hands to your head. It seems like he has no limits.” Roura also talked about Villa’s performance. “We are very pleased. He played the entire 90 minutes, and he wasn’t able to complete a lot of training sessions before tonight’s match. He worked hard and he collaborated in the team’s victory. He’s an important player for us and he’s ready to play.” When asked about Thiago, who was in the starting line-up, Roura noted, “he’s an exceptional player. He’s really on form.”
“Valdés got the acknowledgement he deserved”
“I have no doubt that the fans, in their maturity, would know how to receive Víctor. He got the acknowledgement he deserved and we hope he’ll continue to get that kind of treatment while he’s our keeper,” said Roura.
