Now he has established a new record for both the ‘Pichichi’ (top scorer in La Liga) and the ‘Golden Boot’, beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 41 La Liga goals in the 2010/11 season, and Dudu Georgescu’s 47 goals for Dynamo Bucharest in the 1976/77 season. He is the highest scoring ‘Golden Boot’ since the award was established in the 1966/67 season. Behind him in the ranking comes Hector Yazalde of Sporting Lisbon, who scored 46 goals in the 1973/74 season. Messi has smashed all the records at a stroke.
