The Catalan defender reckons the squad are full of motivation and keen to get the new season started - with the first big challenge the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid
Gerard Piqué was quick to praise his young centre back colleague Marc Bartra, who could have a big part to play this year: “the way I’ve seen him in training, he looks ready to play a role in the first team and fight for a starting place. We all have a lot of confidence in him”.
Gerard Piqué has needed just four sessions to gauge the motivation that the squad has ahead of the start of the new season. After joining up on Monday following his break after the Euro 2012 competition, Barça’s Catalan centre half reckons “we are all keen to start the season. There are many challenges ahead, such as starting with a new coach and incorporating Jordi Alba and the B team lads. The squad is really up for it and we are keen to start winning again”.
Feeling good for the start of the campaign
Last season Piqué suffered a series of injuries that stopped him making the start to the season that he would have wanted, but this year things are looking different and he declared: “I’m feeling good. I have to keep working and getting match fit and ensure I have no early season niggles, but I’m very keen to help the team as much as I can”.
Super Cup
Barça start what promises to be another hectic season with the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid this month and Piqué admitted that : “winning it would give us a confidence boost, but it’s not vital. It’s a special competition against a special rival. Madrid and Barça are two teams full of enormous talent and squads packed with great players. There’s really nothing much between us at the moment”.
