The Spanish national team defeated Panama this Wednesday thanks to goals from Pedro (2) and Villa in the first half and second half goals from Ramos and Susaeta. The friendly, played at Rommel Fernández Stadium, featured six FC Barcelona players in the starting line-up for Spain: Valdés, Alba, Busquets, Iniesta, Pedro and Villa. One of the most notable players of the match was AndrésIniesta, who provided two assists in the first half. Sergio Busquets was the only Barça player to play the entire 90 minutes, whilst Montoya wasn’t able to make his debut.
Barça’s attacking trio lead the way
Iniesta and Pedro linked up on 15 minutes to make it 0-1. A quarter hour later Villa was the target of another incisive pass from Iniesta, the Spanish forward slotted the ball into the roof of the net to make it 0-2. Just before the break, Mata sent Pedro through on goal; the Canarian brilliantly left the keeper in his wake and secured Spain a three-goal advantage ahead of the second half.
Three goals to cap off the night
Iniesta and Pedro were subbed off before the second half for Cesc Fàbregas and Jesus Navas. Five minutes into the second half Víctor Valdés was forced to make his first save of the match. The keeper was subbed off for Casillas nine minutes later. In addition to Casillas, Mikel Susaeta and Roberto Soldado were also brought on for Jordi Alba and David Villa.
In fact, it was Susaeta that made it 0-5, after a cross from Navas. Minutes before that, however, Sergio Ramos had scored Spain’s fourth with a sublime free kick. The match still had one more goal in store to the delight of the home fans. In the dying minutes of the match Gabriel Gómez, with a Panenka-style effort, slotted the ball past Casillas from the penalty spot.
